Nice list so J Rome is Jennifer's singer right? OK agree with you that she has the best two singers but I switch them around as for vocal ability but agree with your rankings all things factored in. Was anybody eliminated last night? I don't mind the spoiler. |

As to Jason: Lance, he may not be considered "white" to some and he doesn't play a guitar, but he seems to have the ladies' vote, at least in the audience and I think the judges/mentors picked up on that. I can't really rank the contestants yet for two reasons: 1) several of them kind of seem the same to me and 2) by the second half of the show I find myself losing interest so pay only partial attention. I might agree that Jennifer has the strongest team, BUT (and this is a big one) I am finding her to be too much - the only word I can think of is "loud" - and that makes me like her voice much less. For example this week, I was doing something in another room while she and John Legend were singing the opening number (I didn't know who was singing until I came into the room) and her voice sounded so much louder than his and a bit abrasive to my ears. I could barely hear Legend and I wasn't sure if it was him or Robin. Anyway, it's a good thing she has powerful singers on her team because she does tend to dominate whereas Kelly and Robin to a degree actually tone it down a bit to allow their people to have more of a spotlight. I don't want Jennifer to cramp her style completely but she could be a little more low key at least some of the time. JMHO.
Just like on AI, I haven't found a favorite yet on this show. I'll continue to watch if I'm around at the time. Are you two (UV & Lance) enjoying it a lot?

Once again nice to have you on board. Haven't heard from Roi regarding this weeks show and I haven't watched it yet. Nice thing about Duets is you can watch it on Hulu if you miss it live. I have been very impressed with Jennifer's singing. Not as good as Kelly but virtually nobody is as good as Kelly. Jennifer is a good ole country girl and kind of brash. I can see how that can put you off but I have noticed that she does not sound country when she is singing material that is not country. I loved her on Ain't no mountain high enough. I agree with UV and the judges that she has the strongest team.John is an incredible vocalist and J Rome is a silky smooth performer.
I like how you noted that John Legend might be lightening up a little. This mentors voting on the competition is really a problem as one mentor could get caught up in wanting his/her contestant to win and sabotaging the competition. I don't think they would do it intentionally but maybe just subconsciously.

Stella, I used to think the same of Jennifer (loud, questionable tonal quality and slightly annoying); however, she has grown in me the last two weeks. She's picking great songs (I assume she is picking them for her team, still not sure how this show works?). She really sings well and has a strong voice. I was surprised. She's better than I thought she was.
I am enjoying the show ok. I don't like the sing off, and am kind of luke warm to the host guy.
It's probably my least favorite of the singing shows but I do like it. |

So UV we are quite close to ranking them the same. Cool. I am wondering something. If we are biased we are probably not going to realize we are biased right. I think tendency is for guys to prefer females and females to prefer guys. Now in this case I prefer both of the guys that you do at the very top. I think that is an indication that they are definitely the best singers on the show if they are getting both of our vote. As for third place you favor the good looking guy and I favor the hottest chick. I think that is where the bias is probably coming in.   |
